The night ended with the warm wind whipping through my jeans. We are on our way back home from dinner with Sean. It was the most perfect ending to the most perfect day! I could repeat yesterday a million more times exactly the same way and die a very happy woman. Let me rewind and lay it out for you…

We woke up behind our old house and decided that it was time to go somewhere for the day. We opted for OB so we could let the dogs run on the beach and swim a bit. After running through our checklist (1. unplug 2. step up 3. hatches down 4. mirrors out 5. all items stowed 6. etc, etc etc) we were on our way to the beach!

The drive went very smoothly. We were a bit concerned since it would be the first time we would move since placing all of our items in the RV. How would everything hold up? What would fall? What might happen? As it turns out we did an exceptional job packing everything in. There were no issues with our new home. The only snag was the one hour long wait at the end of 8 to get into OB. (For those of you not from here Interstate 8 dead ends at Ocean Beach, it is one of the very few ways in and out of OB). On this particular Thursday morning there happened to be a Police motorcade winding their way around town and ending at The Rock Church for a memorial service for a local Officer that was shot last Thursday. Over 700 police, fire, boarder patrol, ambulances etc drove past that section of the 8 causing over an hour delay for those of us waiting. We did not mind though.

Since we had our entire house with us we turned off the engine and I made us breakfast. After the short delay we arrived at the beach and scored the best spot for the RV. First things first, we unrolled the awning and opened the windows and door up to take advantage of the beach breezes and keep some shade for ourselves and our mutts. Moments after our arrival we met our neighbor Fernando, who was hanging in his vehicle in the parking lot –nice guy. He is one of many “neighbors” that I’m sure we will encounter on our travels.

Then we were off to the water. The dogs were psyched! It was (and continues to be) over 90• here in sunny SD so some beach time was wonderful. When we had had our fill of the sun and sand we simply walked across the parking lot to our beach house, gave the dogs some long leashes and water and we went in for lunch. We have stocked up on some organic goodies and our sandy’s were spectacular (if I do say so myself). During lunch my Mama stopped by and had a ice cold sparkling water with us –it was really great. :)

The rest of the afternoon consisted of catching up on reading, I re-screened our screen door, we gave the dogs a bath using our super awesome outside shower (good job Huno) and we basically just vegged. Around 5:00 we drove our home over to my Mom’s where we plugged in and recharged for a few hours while we got ready for dinner. We had a date to have dinner with our good buddy Sean Kelley so Matt scooted us over to Casa de Kelley on our scooter (I named our scooter Laurent).

Sean is the wonderful soul who married Matt and I just over 6 months ago and to celebrate he invited us over to open the bottle of Trione wine that we had given him as a “thanks!”. Man, was it an amazing meal!! REALLY AMAZING!! The steaks were PERFECT and the wine was just as fantastic. We ended the evening with some Rockband and named our “band” the Trione Trio after the wine we had just finished.

As we said our goodbyes Matt and I climbed on Laurent for the scenic, back roads ride home. The night was warm and perfect for a scooter ride. It had been such a magnificent day! I could hardly imagine a day better. When we got home all 4 of us crashed for the night and as I was dozing off I found myself singing Donna Fargo’s “Happiest Girl in the Whole USA”. (my mom’s version though which is much louder).
