Details Before Departure!

Well I guess “home” is now relative, isn’t it? We physically live in the dwelling that we have happily occupied for the last 3 or 4 years, but our hearts are in the RV. Each day we both try to do 1 thing that will better the RV or prep us for the road. We have learned a lot in this brief week since we have been back to San Diego. For example, I bet that you didn’t know that you don’t actually have to live in South Dakota to register a vehicle there. (Well maybe if you live there you would know that –you don’t count since you don’t need that info anyways.) Since Matt and I will have no “real” physical address we thought it would be best to register in the state that is going to cost the least to do so. We also needed a state that would let us re-register without physically being there and I also wanted one that has the vanity plates “TALLYHO” available. South Dakota fit all of our criteria so that is where we will register. The sales tax there is only 3% which is the delicious icing on our perfect little RV cupcake. :)

In addition to the vanity plates that I insist on (and Matt could really probably care less about) we also want to completely pimp out our new home. So while Matt is learning all about the electrical system and looking into solar, I am being a busy sewing bee and whipping up some new curtains, room dividers, and bedding. We decided on crushed purple velvet. What, you think that may make the small living space look tiny? I was concerned also and time will tell. But we do have white walls, white (carpeted??) ceiling and light cabinets. In fact the only thing dark in the whole place is the oven, which is black. So crushed purple velvet it is. It will be a huge improvement from the bland “sand” and “sage” color scheme that the RV came with. We are very excited to see the improvements!

Oh, another key item to point out about our RV is that whomever owned it before us took the 4 person (and formally mini-sleeper) table and turned it into a 2 person. Doing so doubled the floor space in the living area and will make the pups very happy.

Next weekend we have decided will be our first voyage with our whole family in the RV. Just a weekend to get our feet wet. We are not sure where to go yet, but have a lot to do before we leave next Friday. For starters we need to flush out our water system. Upon purchase we were taught about the anti-freeze that “you can drink, though it don’t taste too good” that was put into our water system since they were unsure who would buy this coach or where it would be going. We purchased an outdoor shower, since the one that used to be in ours is no longer there and we need to replace some of the window latches before take off also.

I’m guessing that by next Sunday we should have a really good idea how to use our RV and what other details we will need to focus on. On our way back from TX we did not use the restroom or water since we knew we would be parking it as soon as we got home and neither of us knows where to “dump” (such a disgusting word -I think I’ll say “eliminate” or “empty” from now on).

So TALLY-HO!! next Friday. I’m sure you’ll read about it.

xoxo,
Breezy
